The story of Bujang Kawi
I saw this unusual croc in Langkawi Crocodile Farm. His name is Bujang Kawi, bet he is still single coz of the name given! This croc is about 20 years old and presently weights more than 1000 lbs, which is so much heavier than me. He was born handicapped without teeth and pointed jaw. Thus, he has to be taken care, treated and being fed like a baby. Althought he might look fierce in appearance but he is actually very gentle and shy (according to what is written on the sign board). It says that it could be due to his appearance that he does not mix around and prefers to be alone. And guess what? He has a brother called Bujang Lang which is much more handsome than Bujang Kawi. Yeah, crocs can be handsome too! Lolz. Check out the pic below to find out how Bujang Kawi looks like who is not that handsome :P
Crocs with their mouth open. Why?
Have you ever wonder why the crocs kept their mouth open when they are basking under the hot sun? Possibly or maybe, it could be due to the following reasons:-
(1) For evaporating and cooling purpose since they do not have sweat glands
(2) To serve as a threat to their predators
(3) To dry out their mouth lining in order to minimize infection by algae or fungus
